Kent State University’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Physical Therapist Assistant Technology can give you the skills to help people recover from illness and injury. You will learn to administer therapeutic modalities, exercise and other treatment procedures. You will be instructed in the use of specialized equipment, and you will learn how to instruct patients in the use and care of braces, prostheses, and assistive devices. As a physical therapist assistant, you will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist implementing treatment programs according to each patient’s individualized plan of care. An associate degree is granted after the successful completion of 66 semester hours of coursework. The curriculum contains a strong core of physical therapist assistant classes as well as related coursework, including anatomy and physiology, psychology, human growth and development and interpersonal communications — essential elements and coursework for professional physical therapy assistant programs nationwide. Upon receiving the associate degree, you will be eligible to take the State Licensure Exam for physical therapist assistants. As with the majority of physical therapy assistant programs, admission to the KSU program is selective and limited. It is important for each student to meet with the program director to discuss admission requirements.
